Extended abstracts will be published as a Technical Report after the workshop. Please consider the following guidelines:

  • 1-2 pages (min. 300 words)
  • Provide title, authors, institute
  • Figures should have a resolution larger than 300 DPI

10:15 - 10:40 Michaela Riganova (CTU): Crowdsourcing Urban Accessibility: How to attract large user base and obtain precise data

  • People impaired in mobility have much higher requirements regarding information about accessibility when planning their everyday journeys. Usage of the professionally created sidewalk-based geodatabase is a solution, however, the professional onsite reconnaissance is highly time and cost demanding. One of the proposals is to achieve this data mining by geo-crowdsourcing approach as an alternative to professional reconnaissance. This talk presents results of the research focused on designing the mobile application for collecting accessibility attributes by non-expert crowd which will reduce time and cost of the professional data collection. The research results suggest the feasibility of this approach when the users are provided with a proper guidance and their effort is supported and rewarded by gamified layer.

10:40 - 11:05 Dominika Palivcova (CTU): SuSy: Surveillance System for Hospitals

  • We present a prototype of Surveillance System developed as a part of an indoor navigation system. The related indoor navigation system uses a video detection for identification of navigated users and employs various terminals. In the Surveillance System, we focused on further utilization of audiovisual data from those terminals and using computer vision we aim to increase safety and security in large public buildings. In the design and prototyping phases, we followed the User-Centered design methodology.

13:30 - 13:55 Jakub Váca (CTU): Design of personal pill reminder for elderly and blind users

  • Multimodal navigation of visually impaired people (combination of indoor, outdoor and public traport) is a complex task. To start we conducted a literature review concerning orientation and navigation of visually impaired people and also navigation systems based on text descriptions of routes for indoor and outdoor, was analyzed. This work focuses on identifying the situations forthcoming in urban area navigation when users use public transformation and change the various environments. Text descriptions of these situations were created to be tested in experiments with visually impaired users. In this article are results of two experiments, first conducted in laboratory and second in field. Different routes containing different modes of public transportation and different types of environment was tested with participants.

13:55 - 14:20 Václav Pavlovec (CTU): External labeling of non-convex areas

  • Educational text where complex relations between several objects are described is often accompanied by illustrations - a visual representation of the relations. Labels, short textual annotations, laid out around the illustrations mediate the interconnection between the verbal and visual representation of information. In this talk we will present an algorithm cabable of label layout calculation in real time. The algorithm is able to position the labels into non-convex areas around the illustrations.

10:00 - 10:25 Jakub Berka (CTU): Navigation of visually impaired people in urban areas with environment transitons and use of public transportation

  • Pill reminding is very helpful, especially for older people, who usually have to take multiple pills due to their health issues. In this work, I will present requirements gathered from a blind elderly user in comparison with most popular pill reminder mobile applications. As a next step, I will describe the first round of User-centered design (UCD) lifecycle of new pill reminder mobile application.

10:25 - 10:50 Barbora Endrštová (CTU): Preferences of visually impaired older adults regarding audio content consumption: A user study and design concent

  • We present BBook, our prototype device that supports playback of audio-content (ebooks, music, radio). The design is adapted to needs, preferences, and experience of older adults with vision impairments. We employ several real-world metaphors that are familiar to the target user audience to make the interaction easy and efficient for our particular user audience. We present the results of user research and initial design concepts.

10:50 - 11:15 Roman Janovský (CTU): Operator Station for visualization and Control of Autonomous Unmanned vehicles

  • Unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) are nowadays commonly used for data acquisition, for monitoring dangerous places and for free time activities., given their mobility and low cost. There is a need for visualisation and possibly planning of a flight plan. Given their mobility and fast and often chaotic movement, following and selecting them can be quite hard. In cooperation with Agent Technology Center and their UAV simulator, this work was focused on creation of a visualisation for the operator to control drones and plan missions for them.
