Selection of host universities
Before you apply for a study abroad, you should clarify for yourself where you want to go and with which goals. Is a particular language of instruction or language important to you? Do you want to deepen a certain focus of your studies, etc? You can search for a host university of your choice worldwide and personally clarify admission procedures with it, or you can search for a suitable host university within the pool of partnerships with the HTW Dresden.
To find the right host university for you, inform yourself:
- about our existing partnerships
- on the corresponding websites of the host universities
- through the experience reports of your fellow students (Please log in with your user ID.)
- in our information library in room Z 233A with information brochures from our partner universities, country information and all experience reports
- on the pages of the DAAD
Conversations with the programme coordinator
If you have short-listed one or more universities, consult with the respective programme coordinator (contact person for the respective partner university) in your faculty. After the consultation, you can decide for a host university according to your subject-specific and language skills, as well as your personal wishes.
Find your programme coordinator in the Directory of partner universities.
Application for the HTW Dresden
You submit your application to the International Office by 30 January at the latest for the following academic year (WS and SS).
(Attention: If exchange places are still available at the desired partner university, an application at a later time is quite possible. However, inclusion in the selection procedure of the faculty is excluded).
Please submit the following documents:

- Record of marks (from the QIS portal)
- Proof of your language skills (self-assessment)
- Letter of motivation (maximum one A4 page, in English or German)
The international coordinator (or Erasmus+ university coordinator) informs you about the selection decision of the faculty.

If your application at the HTW Dresden was successful for a study abroad position, at the latest now you should begin familiarising yourself with the modules and courses of the host university. To ensure that your study achievements abroad are recognised at the HTW Dresden, you must complete a Learning Agreement prior to your stay. In the Learning Agreement you and your programme coordinator define the modules that you want to take abroad and which HTW modules you will replace.
This is often already requested with the application documents from the host university.
Detailed information on the Learning Agreement and the recognition of study achievements can be found here,
Application at the host university
Ask the programme coordinator of your partner university and check the homepage of the partner university to find which additional registration formalities are required by the partner university and apply there. As a rule, the host university should already be informed about your nomination by the International Office.
Do not forget to take care of your accommodation, financing, academic recognition, insurance and, if applicable, your visa.
