Faculty of Spatial Information

The research activities of the faculty encompass several divisions of geomatics, e.g. spatial data collection, spatial data management, statistics, curve fitting and geovisualisation.
For this purpose, various technologies such as geodetical sensors, remote sensing and photogrammetry, terrestrial laser scanning, web-based spatial information systems (GIS), building information modelling (BIM) and web map services (WMS) are implemented or developed. Areas of application of the key research focus are environmental monitoring, civil engineering (in particular, traffic route engineering), building management, preservation of historical monuments and archaeology.
Geodata management will be of great importance in the future for the “Digitale Verwaltung 2020” (Digital management 2020) project in the context of German participation in the worldwide initiative “Open Government Partnership (OGP)”.
