Brief description

Mobile, intelligent and interactive service and assistance systems provide one of the central research foci in mainly interdisciplinary field of artificial intelligence since about 15 years. Three subtopics are the pillars of the project's content:

  • Trainable local robot navigation by use of machine learning approaches in combination with (incremental) neural networks
  • Speech based, intuitive control of mobile service and assistance systems
  • Adaptive local robot navigation for the human robot interaction

The application scenario is a typical tour guide situation in a museum (Technische Sammlungen Dresden). For that the robot is to serve as reception system, presenting information about the museum and accompany visitors through parts of the exhibition.

Research platform

August der Smarte

The project fundings allowed to purchase a SCITOS A5 platform developed by the company MetraLabs. According to the history of Saxony and Dresden the robot is baptized to the name August der Smarte (August, the smart one).
