Postdoc Program

The postdoc program at the HTW Dresden offers a unique and extensive opportunity to prepare for an academic career. You get a lot of freedom to try out different didactic methods in teaching and to bring your research knowledge into it.

Dr. Cornelius Sandhu, Postdoc (2016 - 2021)

With the Postdoc Program, the HTW Dresden supports highly talented young scientists who have completed their doctorate. The aim is to attract them to research and teaching and to qualify them for a professorship or permanent scientific position at a university of applied sciences (HAW). Within five years, the postdocs go through two qualification phases that include aspects of teaching and research as well as personal development. The conception and implementation of courses and the supervision of student theses are required, as is participation in advanced training courses in higher education didactics. The tasks of the postdocs also include the acquisition of third-party funding, scientific publication and the supervision of a doctoral process. Successful graduates receive the "HAW-PostdocPLUS" certificate.

Tender Process

The postdoc program of HTW Dresden uses special allocations for the improvement of third-party funding. The faculties of HTW Dresden are eligible to apply. In internal tendering and evaluation procedures, they can apply with specific outlines for the promotion of young scientists in their departments. A public announcement for a postdoctoral position will be made by the faculties that are awarded the funding. These can then also be found on this page.

Current postdocs at the HTW Dresden

Dr.-Ing. Helga Tauscher

... analyzes, transforms and integrates digital building models using graph transformation, e.g. with geoinformation systems, visualizations or simulation models. The transformation rules can be configured, intuitively displayed and formally analyzed.

Faculty: Geo-information
Mentor: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christian Clemen

Research Profile of Dr.-Ing. Tauscher
ORCID-Profil of Dr.-Ing. Tauscher

Dr.-Ing. Sebastian Golz

... is researching how we can estimate the damage caused by future flooding and heavy rainfall events to buildings and infrastructure in terms of space and time. Building on this, he and his colleagues at the Institute of Building in Climate Change (IBiK) are developing flood and heavy rainfall-adapted construction methods to minimise damage to residential buildings, industrial buildings and engineering structures.

Faculty: Civil Engineering
Mentor: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Naumann

Research Profile of Dr.-Ing. Golz
Research Gate-Profile of Dr.-Ing. Golz

Dr.-Ing. Katrin Wieczorek

... is using artificial intelligence to develop a new interdisciplinary method for analyzing change processes in companies. The goal is to gain important insights for successful digital transformation. The basis for this is her dissertation entitled "Methods for reconstructing information technology-driven change processes in companies by processing heterogeneous data sources", which she successfully defended in summer 2019.

Faculty: Economics
Mentor: Prof. Dr. phil. et. rer. nat. habil. Rüdiger von der Weth

Research Profile of Dr.-Ing. Wieczorek

Dr.-Ing. Linh Tuan Mai

...investigates the use of BIM methods in the planning, commissioning and management of technical building equipment. He is developing new information technology approaches, combining simulation of building systems engineering based on BIM data with virtual reality. These approaches provide immersive solutions in the training of engineers and technicians in the construction industry and enable innovative working methods in the construction process.

Faculty: Mechanical Engineering
Mentor: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Heiko Werdin

ORCID-Profil of Dr.-Ing. Mai

Dr. Fouad Bahrpeyma (Ph.D.)

...focuses his work on the field of artificial intelligence. He places particular emphasis on cognitive production systems, i.e. intelligent, self-organizing and self-adapting systems for automation. His PhD, entitled "Multi-step ahead time series prediction", was written on the topic of time series analysis.

Faculty: Computer Science/Mathematics
Mentor: Prof. Dr. rer. pol. Dirk Reichelt

Research Gate-Profile of Dr. Bahrpeyma

Dr.-Ing. Sören Miersch

... focuses its development work on the field of highly efficient electric machines and drives, which are used, for example, as traction drives in electromobility or for e-aircraft applications. The aim is, among other things, to improve cooling by means of novel ceramic-like composite materials for winding insulation and the use of alternative cooling concepts.

Fakulty: Electrical Engineering
Mentor: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Schuhmann

Research Profile of Dr.-Ing. Miersch

Program participants of the past years

Dr. Hänel is investigating how relict populations of rare plant species can be networked to increase genetic diversity and thus fitness and resilience in the long term through natural pollinators, but also through seed transfer.

Time in program: 08/2017 - 03/2023
Degree: HAW-PostdocPLUS in April 2023
Faculty: Agriculture/Environment/Chemistry
Mentor: Prof. Dr. rer. nat. habil. Arne Cierjacks

Research Profile of Dr. Hänel

Dr. Sandhu is working in the field of water supply, especially with bank filtration as an element of groundwater recharge. With the application of bank filtration he contributes to the improvement of drinking water quality in countries like India.

Time in program: 07/2016 - 06/2021
Degree: certificate HAW-PostdocPLUS in June 2021
Faculty: Civil Engineering
Mentor: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Grischek

Mr. Baldauf is engaged in innovative semiconductor devices. For example, reconfigurable field-effect transistors, which enable hardware (chips) that can better adapt to the desired application and thus work more efficiently. Or also highly integrated semiconductor memories, which are fast and non-volatile at the same time.

Time in program: 12/2016 - 09/2020
Degree: Mr. Baldauf was successfully appointed Professor of Theoretical Electrical Engineering/ Optoelectronics at HTW Dresden in 2020
Faculty: Electrical Engineering
Mentor: Prof. Dr.-Ing. habil. Wilfried Klix

Dr. Ghofrani dealt with architectures of software systems. In particular, this involved the collaborations of software components as well as machine learning with intelligent systems such as robots and future production facilities.

Time in program: 09/2018 - 06/2020
Faculty: Computer Science/Mathematics
Mentor: Prof. Dr. rer. pol. Dirk Reichelt

Mr. Kaden dealt with the subject of geodesy. This science is about measuring and dividing the earth into areas, points and markings so that we as inhabitants know where our house is, how far it is to China and how big Greenland is.

Time in program: 07/2016 - 02/2018
Degree: Mr. Kaden was successfully appointed as professor for surveying and geoinformation at the UAS Erfurt in 2018
Faculty: Geo-information
Mentor: Prof. Dr. Christian Clemen
