Study requirements, application and application period

Study requirements

  • First degree (Bachelor or Diploma) in International Management or a field of business administration  with a strong international orientation with 210 ECTS (3½ years).
  • If you have a Bachelor's degree which accounts for less than 210 credits (3½ years), it will be checked whether you have to take a certain amount of bridging modules in order to achieve a total of 300 ECTS credits after completing the 90 ECTS credit Master programme in International Management. Bridging modules can be completed either before or during the Master's programme. The examination board determines the exams (modules) to be taken. We recommend modules from the higher semesters of the Bachelor programmes to graduates of Universities of Cooperative Education (Berufsakademien). University graduates are advised to complete more practical modules or even an internship in order to obtain the required ECTS credits.
  • English language proficiency of a minimum of C1 (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages)
  • English language skills have to be verified by suitable tests, such as
  • If you have not taken an internationally recognised language test (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English, Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English) or if English proficiency at C1 level is not explicitly recorded on the certificate (or transcript of records) of your first university (Bachelor) degree, then C1 English language proficiency can be certified by a competent person (e.g. a qualified language teacher) who is officially able to professionally assess your proficiency in English. In this case, download the form (Proof of English Language Competence for Applicants) and ask a language teacher to fill in, sign, date and stamp the form.

  • German language skills of Level A2 are recommended

  • International Experience: If you have undertaken professional employment abroad of at least 12 months after completion of your Bachelor degree, you will receive a grade bonus contribution to your Bachelor degree GPA.

    Application and application period

    • Application deadline for summer semester: 1st December to 15th January.

You will find all further information about the application under the heading Application and Admission - Master on our homepage.

    Study objectives

After your studies you will have gained knowledge and capability in the integration of complexity and change into management and decision-making. You will also have a command of core areas of international management.

This knowledge and capability opens up a number of opportunities for you as a practising manager. You will be competent in adopting a global perspective as a manager. Negotiation and decision making will be key assets that enable you to operate effectively in a global business context. The ability to think holistically and consider the relationships between issues as they affect the organization will further support your managerial ambitions.

Furthermore, you will be able to bridge cultural differences across the organisation’s activities and relationships.

Finally, you will be qualified to study for a doctoral degree in Germany and abroad.

I envision myself pursuing a career as an international manager and entrepreneur. The variety of courses offered by the HTW Dresden & its relationships with diverse universities throughout the world caught my attention. I knew right away – the Master in IM is the study progam that I am looking for.
