In early September, a delegation from the HTWD visited Nigeria as part of an Erasmus+-funded summer school. Professor Rogler travelled to Lagos and Lokoja together with seven students and academic staff. They visited three universities: Anchor University and the University of Lagos in Lagos, and the Federal University in Lokoja.

The trip brought together various academic disciplines. The faculties of Electrical Engineering, Design, Informatics/Mathematics, as well as Agriculture/Environment/Chemistry, were involved. The participants from Germany presented their research work and exchanged views on their research with their Nigerian partners.

International perspectives and interdisciplinary exchange

In addition to the academic exchange, the Summer School offered insights into Nigeria’s higher education landscape as well as into local life and work. Participants found it particularly valuable to get to know the country and its universities from a perspective that went beyond mere tourist impressions.

“The discussions on science communication, design and knowledge transfer were particularly enriching for me,” said Ramona Wahl, a research assistant at the Faculty of Design. She added that the exchange with colleagues from other disciplines had also given rise to new ideas and synergies.

A return visit from Nigeria to Dresden is planned for 2027. Among other things, the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding is on the agenda.
