Professor Elena Klimova: "The professorship is my dream job"

On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of HTW Dresden, we present people from the university in our series of portraits. We asked Professor Elena Klimova what special experience she associates with HTW Dresden and what she would like to see in its future development.

Elena Klimova has been Professor of Mathematics and Analysis at HTW Dresden for four years. In addition to her teaching activities, she is a senator, program officer of the International Office and organizes a study trip to Russia once a year. She is originally from Samara, the ninth largest city in Russia. Dresden's diverse cultural landscape and the Elbe River in the middle of the city with its wide Elbe meadows remind her of her hometown. What does she associate with the HTW Dresden, she tells us in the interview.

What do you connect with the HTW Dresden?

I have held the professorship for Mathematics and Analysis at the Faculty of Computer Science/Mathematics since 2018. For me, the professorship is my dream job. I can bring mathematics closer to young people and be in research at the same time. At HTW Dresden, that's a great opportunity to combine the two.

What experience has had a particular impact on you?

I was particularly impressed by the friendly atmosphere here at the university. Although my start at the university was not scheduled until October 1, I was already invited to the Faculty Hiking Day in September. The hike took us on mining trails in the Osterzgebirge mountains. The exchange of expertise and the conversations we had with our new colleagues were a great start.

How would you describe the university in three words?

Friendly, application-oriented, down-to-earth

What do you wish for the future of the university?

I would like to wish for the future of the university the continuous strengthening of digitalization, especially in teaching. We should actively and sustainably take our positive experiences from the almost two years of online teaching into the future.

More portraits will be published on our anniversary page in the coming weeks: www.htw-dresden.de/30jahre
