Mental Health
Mental health means mental well-being.
Those who feel mentally healthy actively participate in life and cope with stress. There are a variety of services and contact persons available to employees and students at HTW Dresden to promote and maintain mental health.
Maintaining and promoting your health within the framework of occupational health and safety is my main concern. This goes beyond simply participating in occupational health check-ups. I am happy to be your point of contact for any problems or complaints you may have at work.
Here are some examples of topics we can discuss:
- Mental stress
- Conflicts in the workplace
- Overwork due to personal stress (e.g. caring for relatives)
- Support with applying for rehabilitation measures, applying for severe disability status and participation in working life
- Support with addiction counselling
The counselling is, of course, subject to medical confidentiality and is aimed at all HTWD employees, especially professors.
Every employee of HTW Dresden has the opportunity to take advantage of the voluntary and free services offered by the occupational health service.
Further information and contact details can be found here.
The General Student Advisory Service (Allgemeine Studienberatung) provides information and advice on all matters relating to studying. They will help you find your way and decide on the right course of study, and offer help for self-help in individual study situations as you progress through your studies. All consultations are confidential and anonymous if desired.
Relaxation techniques help to reduce physical and mental tension and promote well-being. Here are some of our relaxation options:
- Dresden University Sports Centre (DHSZ) (for students and employees)
- Campusbüro Uni mit Kind (for students and employees): The Campus Office Uni mit Kind offers yoga during pregnancy, which can be found under the heading Courses.
- Open Online University Midday Meditation (OOHMM) (German) (for students and employees)

- Yoga (for employees)
- The HTWD offers places of retreat such as relaxation rooms or a relaxation corner in the library.
Universities are traditionally established organisations whose complex structures and diverse membership – students, lecturers, researchers, administrative staff – face major challenges in the 21st century: digitalisation, increasing competition and acceleration in the academic system. In this context, stress levels and stress-related illnesses have increased among university members. The quality of communication within the university also suffers from this stress. To mitigate this effect, moments of pause and mindful behaviour towards oneself and colleagues can help. The Network of Mindful Universities in Dresden (NaHiD) was founded to provide recommendations for action.

Wherever people with their individual character traits come together, conflicts can arise. Tensions, differences and conflicts are therefore the norm in companies and organisations. Conflicts can be necessary and even productive if they are taken seriously and all those involved find an active way of dealing with them.

Everyone can feel anxious, sad or exhausted from time to time, or suffer from sleep and concentration problems. This is normal and these symptoms often disappear after a while. However, if you are suffering greatly, cannot cope on your own or if these symptoms persist, it makes sense to seek psychotherapeutic help.
