HTWD - Frequently Ask Questions
Run Germany is a Germany-wide, digital running and walking competition for companies. Participants collect kilometres during the campaign period, compete in various competitions and show their joint commitment to health and team spirit. For the first time, universities are competing against each other in the University Cup. We want to hold the title of "Germany's sportiest university"!
Anyone can take part in Run Germany - regardless of performance level. Whether beginner or advanced. The app tracks your run from 4km/h (brisk walking or running).
The app keeps you motivated: with badges, level advancement and group comparisons.
Various rankings increase your motivation:
- Team ranking: the 5 best per company
- Overall ranking: all kilometres of the company count
- Individual ranking: Who achieves the best performance - internally and in a nationwide comparison
- Group ranking: Which Faculty or department is the most active
Your activity is recorded within the app through integrated tracking (you don't need an additional app) or you can connect to the common apps (Strava, Garmin, Google Health, Apple Health etc.) that you already use.
The entire university community is invited to take part. Whether you're a student, administrative employee, professor or project member - register via the link , create a profile and start running. Flexible at any time: whether on the way to work, during an active lunch break with fellow students or colleagues, jogging after work or for a Sunday stroll - every step counts!
Want to take part? Whether you want to take part for the entire 10 weeks from 1 April or as a late starter, download the Run Germany app from the Playstore from 1 April or register via your browser first. You will find the group invitation link in the last "gemeinsam gesund" newsletter, in the news on the intranet or on one of the print notices on campus.
Ideally, use your HTW e-mail address firstname.surname@[stud].htw-dresden.de to register.
After registering in the app, you can choose whether you want to be placed in the overall ranking of the HTW (this happens automatically) or join a group (Faculty or Administration). Groups have already been set up for all eight Faculties, the Administration - which also includes the decentralised institutions and the Rectorate / Vice-Rectorate. You can register for a team via the "Join" button.
There are no distinctions between students and staff: you form a joint, mixed-status team.
If you do not feel that you belong to either a Faculty or an administrative area, please send your request to form a new group to gesund(at)htw-dresden.de (stating a desired group name) and we will check your request. If possible, new groups should consist of at least 5 people. Small groups that do not represent a common department/area will not be created. We do not want to fragment the university community, but rather experience ourselves as a larger community.
Your running session can be recorded directly via the Run Germany app. Another tracking app is not necessary. However, you can synchronise your data with the usual apps (Google Health, Apple Health, Strava) or your wearables (e.g. Garmin).
Unfortunately, the University Health team cannot offer technical support. If you have any technical questions, please always contact Run Germany directly. We recommend taking a look at the official Run Germany FAQs or follow the live ticker.
Further specific technical information can be found in the Tracking Guide.
You can see in the app or in the browser in the "Rankings" section whether the runners of the HTW are in first place together: Rankings → Special ranking → University Cup (Wertungen - Sonderwertung - Hochschul Cup)
First of all, please have a look at the general Run Germany FAQs - many questions about technical requirements, data processing and synchronisation are already explained in detail there.
If you still have specific questions about the HTW processes, you can send an enquiry to gesund(at)htw-dresden.de. The organisers of the University Health Management will try to help you further. As this is the first time we are taking part in such an app-based challenge, please understand that not all details may have been clarified at the beginning. We are piloting the campaign and are looking forward to your participation and activity.
Great! Exercise is important - for body AND mind!
