University Sports Club Lok HTW Dresden e.V.

The university sports club Lok HTW Dresden e.V. (HSG Lok HTW) is a Dresden sports club, which has its historical roots at the Dresden University of Transportation (HfV), the predecessor institution of the HTW Dresden. Founded in 1952 as "HSG Wissenschaft HfV Dresden", the high sports club originally had the purpose to carry out the sportive education of the students of the University of Transportation. As university sports were still part of the curriculum at that time, about 15 sports teachers were employed at the institution. Especially in badminton and basketball, national and international successes were achieved.

After the reunification and the liquidation of the Dresden University of Transportation, the university sports association was transformed into a non-profit association, which, however, no longer took on any university sports tasks. Nevertheless, many athletes remained loyal to the university community and continued to practice their sports as club members.

Today, the club offers training opportunities to its approximately 280 members in 6 departments and 12 sports. Still located at the HTW Dresden, the club continues to work closely with the university sports of the HTW Dresden. Quite a few students use the offers of the HSG Lok HTW during but also after their studies for a sportive balance.
