Consultancy for medium-sized companies

The module "W949 Consulting for SMEs" is offered as part of our Business Administration Master's programmes. The subject matter is practice-relevant topics formulated by companies or non-commercial organisations. Using a project format, students provide consultancy services in the context of the topics. For example, solutions are developed, alternatives are presented and concepts for implementation are formulated.

Selection from the topics worked on in the summer semester 2025:

CoolFusion3D

CoolFusion3D develops an innovative retrofit system for active water cooling of FDM 3D printers. (Lab X)

European Sustainability Reporting Standards - Implementation

Study on implementation in practice

This is a chair project. The implementation at BMW and DHL was analysed and implications formulated based on the mandatory sustainability reporting for the first time in the previous year.

European Sustainability Standards – Implications

ESG and sustainability reporting are among the most important topics of the future for companies. At the same time, there are still few established routines, making it a field in which companies are currently under great pressure to find solutions – driven by legislators, customers and consumers who expect transparency and reliable reporting.

As part of the master's module "W949 Consultancy for medium-sized companies", students at HTW Dresden worked with consultants from ITARICON to develop a practical handbook on the topic of "European Sustainability Standards – Implications". Regulatory requirements were translated into tangible process, organisational and system requirements.

The result of this collaboration is a practical ESG handbook. It supports the ITARICON consultants in systematically recognising ESG requirements at customers, transferring them to company divisions and integrating them into processes and SAP-supported systems. The result is a tool that can actually be used in everyday project work and offers consultants concrete guidance.

The collaboration with ITARICON had several advantages for the students: they learnt about everyday consulting in the SAP and IBM environment, gained insights into real customer projects and worked independently on a topic that offers direct added value in practice.

If you are interested in combining business administration expertise, sustainability and IT consulting, such projects are an ideal opportunity to raise your profile, make contacts and find out whether the consulting world is a good fit for you.
