Test bench converter for a high-speed drive test bench
Electric drives are core components of our increasingly automated and digitalised production systems, autonomous robotic applications, and locally emission-free mobility solutions in road, rail, water and air vehicles; they are also used to convert or store renewable electrical energy. Just under half of the electrical energy supplied worldwide is converted into mechanical energy by means of electric machines; in the industrial sector, this figure is as high as nearly 70 per cent in the EU.
The Electrical Machines and Drives (EMA) research group at HTW Dresden focuses on the development and experimental investigation of high-efficiency electrical machines and their control methods, including for use in mobile applications such as e-mobility and e-aircraft. With its proposal under the German Research Foundation’s (DFG) ‘Large-Scale Research Equipment’ programme, the research group has succeeded in securing funding for the renewal and expansion of its existing laboratory equipment.
The aim of the project is to overcome existing limitations of the current test benches and to enable energy-efficient closed-loop operation for drive testing in the high-speed range with a variably adjustable DC link voltage of 20 to 800 V. The modernisation of the laboratory lays a crucial foundation for meeting the requirements of future research tasks.
The project is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) – 584903635.
