Dual study programme
Dual study programmes combine university studies and professional practice in a company or public authority. While the teaching phases remain unchanged compared to the classic direct study programme in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, you have the opportunity to gain professional experience and receive financial support with a student employment contract during your lecture-free time (during the semester and holidays).
The mutual advantages are obvious:
- You are already integrated into your potential future job and real-life tasks during your studies (from the beginning or from a higher semester onwards) and thus secure the basis for a career in the company at an early stage.
- Your employer gets to know you, can contribute to your training and hire you immediately after graduation as a graduate who is optimally familiar with the company and its fields of activity.
The same requirements (university entrance qualification) apply for the dual study programme as for the traditional direct study programme in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology.
Placement with a practice partner can be arranged before the start of the programme or during the course. A valid certificate of enrolment from HTW Dresden is required for the placement.
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering has proven contacts with numerous industry-related companies in Dresden and the region and, after an initial interview, will make suggestions according to your ideas and current needs.
After a successful placement, you will conclude an individual employment contract with the practice partner.
You should check this:
- Arrangements for release from work during lecture and examination periods
- Arrangements for holidays
- Regulations on remuneration
- Cancellation options in the event of dropping out or other degree-related clauses
- Provisions on commitment to the company after successful graduation (observe case law)
- Ancillary agreement on employment options after successful graduation
If you have any questions, uncertainties, etc., please contact the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at any time.
You are a regular student on the Electrical Engineering and Information Technology degree programme at HTW Dresden.
During lecture and exam-free periods, you will work for your practice partner.
You may also complete the practical semester, your project and your final thesis there.
You will receive a contractually agreed financial remuneration from your practice partner.
You will complete your studies with a Bachelor of Engineering or Diploma.
You start your career with your practice partner
...or decide to continue your studies with a Master of Engineering.
The ultimate jump start
Our dual programme offers several advantages:
It enables students to gain valuable practical experience in a commercial enterprise during their studies. Due to the targeted placement with industry representatives by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, theoretical knowledge can often be applied directly, which significantly enhances the learning process.
In addition, they receive financial support, which helps them to cover their living costs and thus certainly also to be able to strive towards a successful degree in a more relaxed manner.
Another bonus is that these graduates often have the best chances of being taken on by the company in question, as they are already familiar with the work processes and corporate culture. This offers the prospect of a successful and future-proof entry into professional life.
