The DEAL agreement with Wiley in detail:

By participating in the DEAL agreement with Wiley, HTWD members receive reading access to almost the entire journal contents on the Wiley Online Library platform, which includes around 2,000 titles.

The DEAL agreement continues to provide standardized conditions for Open Access publishing at Wiley: The publisher distinguishes between traditional subscription journals ("Hybrid Open Access" or "Online Open") and Gold Open Access journals ("Open Access").

Wiley charges authors an average weighted publication fee of 2,610 euros (net) for a publication in one of the approximately 1,300 subscription journals. This fee is charged for both Open Access and Closed Access publications. The exact amount of the publication fee depends on the category to which a journal is assigned. Wiley distinguishes between three tiers:

  • Tier I (approx. 110 titles): 3,150 euros (net) per publication in journals that:
    • are produced by Wiley or academic societies,
    • operate full-time, permanent editorial offices and/or
    • are managed by a full-time editor-in-chief and/or
    • have a high impact within the discipline;
    • whose APC list price is at least 3,500 euros in any case.
  • Tier II (approx. 600 titles): 2,700 euros (net) per publication in journals that are
    • are not assigned to Tier I and are produced by academic societies.
  • Tier III (approx. 600 titles): 2,200 euros (net) per publication in journals that:
    • are not assigned to Tier I and are produced by Wiley.

For a publication in one of the approximately 600 Gold Open Access journals, Wiley charges authors publication fees according to the current price lists. A discount of 20 percent is granted on these list prices on the basis of the DEAL agreement. For the payment of these fees, HTWD members can apply for a grant from the Publication Fund before submission.
