AI in studies and teaching
Project overview
HTW Dresden is a partner in the European Brilliant Artificial Intelligence Toolkit - Higher Education Instructors project. The project will run for three years, from December 2024 to November 2027, and has a total budget of 400,000 euros. It develops materials and support services for the use of artificial intelligence in teaching and learning. The focus is on three areas: Curriculum planning, teaching design and examination and assessment. Further information on the project can be found on the project website

Artificial intelligence in the university context
Artificial intelligence in the university context
Artificial intelligence is already firmly anchored in everyday university life. Students use it for tasks and analyses, researchers in the academic work process and teachers in the preparation and delivery of courses. The administration is also increasingly using AI-supported systems. This creates new opportunities, but also raises questions about data security, responsibility and the impact on existing work processes.
Focal points and objectives of the project
BAIT-HEI focuses on three fields of application: Curriculum development, teaching and assessment. AI can support the structuring of courses and curricula, learning objectives and modules, teaching methods and task formats as well as tests, assessment schemes and written assignments. The aim of the project is to modernise teaching, provide new didactic impetus and relieve the burden on teaching staff in everyday university life. In addition, a training programme on the use of AI and machine learning in the creation and assessment of learning content is being developed.
Further education and training package
One focus of the project is the testing of AI tools for the development of teaching and educational content. In work package 3, the project partners test the AI-TRIX resources in practice by using them themselves to create content. Among other things, applications of generative AI for course content, learning objectives, learning outcomes and the scope, level of difficulty and technical depth of teaching programmes are being investigated.
The results are incorporated into the BAIT-HEI training package. It bundles recommendations and practical experience for university lecturers and other education experts. The materials are made available as open educational resources.
