New image film "Studying at HTW Dresden – University of Applied Sciences"
26.04.2021The film is addressed in particular to prospective degree students. There is a German and an English version. It accompanies the graduate Averil to the HTW Dresden. Averil came to the university in winter semester 2017/18 to study Environmental Engineering and she stayed. Today she is a research assistant. She gives viewers a glimpse into the university's laboratories and lecture halls and provides insights into student life in Dresden. "The film is about arriving, developing and staying," says Juliane Terpe, Head of the International Office. "It was important to us to show the many aspects of our university and of studying. Studying at HTW Dresden is characterised by practice-oriented teaching in small study groups and intensive support from the teaching staff. Whether international or German prospective students, all are welcome to study with us in Dresden."

Continued participation within the Erasmus+ programme: HTW Dresden receives Erasmus Charter for Higher Education (ECHE)
01.04.2021It sets out basic principles that higher education institutions must fulfil when applying for and implementing Erasmus+ activities. To receive an ECHE, European higher education institutions (HEIs) must apply. HEIs are assessed in the areas of Erasmus Policy Statement, compliance and implementation of the ECHE guidelines, and quality of governance structures. The European Commission has now assessed HTW Dresden's ECHE application with 100 out of 100 possible points. This ensures the continuation of the programme at HTW Dresden until 2027. HTW Dresden has been participating in the Erasmus+ programme since 1993. The EU funding programme enables students, teachers and employees to gain international experience abroad and supports the implementation of exchange programmes. Central components of the programme are the recognition of study achievements abroad based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), tuition fee exemption at the partner university and financial support for exchange students. So far, a total of 1799 students have gone abroad with Erasmus. At the moment, travel opportunities are severely limited due to the pandemic. Nevertheless, the anticipation of stays abroad is there. In the winter semester 2021/2022 alone, 112 students are planning to go abroad via Erasmus+. We hope that we can fulfil this wish for our students.

Welcome Week for international students at HTW Dresden in the summer semester 2021
16.03.2021Together with the student association faranto e.V., a broad programme is offered to support students during their start at HTW Dresden. In addition to organisational matters, such as helpful tips on organising studies and information events organised by the library and the language centre, the Welcome Week programme for international students includes a virtual leisure programme: among other things, a shared cocktail and games evening is organised. On Monday, the week started with a welcome via the Big Blue Button. Thanks to the virtual format, students can participate regardless of their location and thus, despite the current restrictions, successfully start their semester at HTW Dresden. Current information and any short-term changes will be sent to students by e-mail before the start of the Welcome Week. Chances and Opportunities of Entrepreneurship Education in Digital Environments
17.02.2021The whole experience took place for ten Jordanian and ten German students, who founded a company in a simulation. They worked together in international and intercultural teams and learned about the whole processes involved in setting up a company: from finding ideas, to designing the business model, to raising capital from investors. Professors from both the German and the Jordanian universities provided e-learning materials and were on hand to provide active support. In addition, invited professionals from the business world gave practical insights and shared their experiences of setting up a company. The course was entirely digital. Therefore, beside of the professional competencies the students faced the challenge due the distance between Jordan and Germany. The results of the four established start-ups varied highly. While some teams focused on cost leadership, others designed high tech products to be the quality leader. Like in the real world, there are different approaches to become successful, but there can be only one market leader. Congratulation to the founding team of the company “Make your Wave” for the best financial results during the simulation. Moreover, a big thank you to all participants who took the opportunity to broaden their horizons in such an intercultural project. All in all, it was an excellent experience for all participants! Prof. Dr. R. Baierl and Prof. Dr. R. Thamm (both University of Applied Sciences, Dresden) together with Prof. Dr. M. Alsharairi and Dr. O. Shubailat (both School of Logistics and Management, German Jordanian University, Amman) have initiated this project. Many thanks to DAAD who financial supported the project within the program German-Arab Transformation Partnership. A big thank you also to the invited experts Sascha Krause-Tuenker (next2sun), Bara Shamrookh (UXLABS), Prof. Dr. Anjan Ghosh (Narxoz University – Kazakhstan) for their valuable contributions and to the Research Center of Media in Teaching and Science (Technical University Dresden) for bringing in their media-didactic competencies.

International Virtual Winter Seminar "Managed Aquifer Recharge
04.01.2021The 40 participants came from 21 countries: Afghanistan, Algeria, Australia, Bangladesh, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Egypt, Finland, France, Gambia, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Iran, The Netherlands, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, USA, and Vietnam,. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thomas Grischek and Dr.-Ing. Cornelius Sandhu from the Division of Water Sciences introduced MAR including riverbank filtration, aspects of hydraulics and site selection. Applications and MAR sites in Dresden were also presented. Furthermore, the recently published UNESCO-IAH-MAR-Case-Study-Book was presented. Finally, the participants got their questions answered in an online discussion and took part in an online quiz on MAR. Driven by climate change, MAR is, alongside demand management, an increasingly important water management strategy for the preservation, promotion and safeguarding of stressed groundwater systems and for the protection and improvement of water quality. These topics will be discussed in more detail at the international summer school "Managed Aquifer Recharge", which will take place from 22.08. to 04.09.2021 at the HTW Dresden. The seminar was organised by Cristina Sandhu as part of the project "Future.East", which has been running at the HTW Dresden since the end of 2019 and is funded by the DAAD within the HAW programme.

Study International - Apply now for the master's program
18.12.2020As diverse as the students' nationalities are their profiles and stories. This is also reflected in the first two graduates: Laura Salomon comes from Grimma near Leipzig. She went to Chile as an exchange student at the age of 16. After graduating from high school, she studied "International Hotel Management", worked abroad in the hotel industry and was keen to develop her career further. "I chose HTW Dresden because the Master's in International Management gave me room for personal development in all its variety. It also gave me the opportunity to study in English," she says. In the second semester, she took the opportunity to study abroad at one of the variety partner universities of HTW Dresden. "In my Erasmus semester, I was at ISEG Lisbon, which I can highly recommend. The Portuguese university demands a lot, but at the same time you can learn a lot in a great city. I was able to take subjects such as basic programming or statistics courses, which also benefited me in my Master's thesis." Ms Salomon wrote her master's thesis in collaboration with the innovation network smart³ | materials, solutions, growth. Since graduating, she is working at the Fraunhofer Institut für Werkzeugmaschinen und Umformtechnik IWU, where she has taken responsibility for the project management of two international projects. The second graduate, Chaymae Mansar, comes from Morocco. She has already completed a Bachelor's degree in "Accounting and Finance" and a Master's degree in "Auditing and Controlling" at the University of Ibn Tofail in Kenitra (Morocco): „I was immediately drawn to the International Management Master's degree programme offered by the HTW Dresden because of the interesting modules integrated, and the opportunity to spend a semester studying at another partner university. Chaymae Mansar also raves about her semester abroad: My semester abroad was a great experience, I chose to study at Neoma Business School in Rouen. The program offered some very interesting modules on project management through which I was able to fortify my theoretical and practical knowledge. I was also very grateful for the great support offered by the HTW Dresden and the partner university“. says the 26-year-old. I am so thankful to have been a part of this degree programme at the HTW Dresden, it helped me grow and push my own boundaries, become more confident and ready to embark on my career. I learned how to work efficiently in teams, manage complex leadership situations, understand how to analyze the strategy of organizations, and discover new aspects about international business. Therefore, the International Management program gave me the proper knowledge and instruments to be more confident about my abilities to be a future successful manager. Currently, my plans are to find an intriguing job position that would allow me to exert my gathered knowledge and fulfill my passion.

Erasmus+ with Israel
10.12.2020The Erasmus+ worldwide program promotes mobility and cooperation between universities, also beyond the borders of Europe. Since 2014 there has been a cooperation with the Design Faculty of the Institute of Technology in Holon, not far from Tel Aviv. It is the first Erasmus+ cooperation of the HTW Dresden. The Holon Institute of Technology is a multidisciplinary university that focuses on science, technology and design and works in a highly interdisciplinary way. With the bachelor's programs Industrial Design, Interior Design and Visual Communication as well as the master's program Integrated Design, design education in Holon is very broad. "The extensive profile, the excellent reputation in the design community and the very good international networking of the Faculty of Design makes the HIT a promising partner for us", says Professor Diana Simon, Dean of the Faculty of Design (HTW Dresden), who shares the cooperation together with Dr. Yael Eylat Van-Essen (HIT). "Multicultural understanding is essential for designers. The development of international partnerships and the promotion of mobility for students and teachers are essential components in conveying an intercultural identity. With this in mind, we would like to make our collaboration with Holon sustainable and lively in the coming years," explains Diana Simon. Students, lecturers and staff of the Faculty of Design can now submit applications for travelling to the partner university. But also lecturers and employees from other faculties and departments have the opportunity to apply for the exchange program. Interested parties will be advised by the International Office. The selection of applications is carried out in cooperation with the Faculty of Design.
