DAAD Prize for luliia Latysheva
25.11.2020luliia Latysheva was born in Kiev, where she studied in the Bachelor programme Financial Analysis and subsequently in the Master programme Work Organisation in Companies. The Ukrainian has been living in Germany since 2013. After a language course in Aachen, she enrolled as a guest auditor at the University of Leipzig in mathematics and computer science as well as chemistry. "I find an engineering profession much more interesting and creative than economics. I wanted to try out which natural science subject I liked best," explains the student. Since 2017 Latysheva is studying Civil Engineering at the HTW Dresden. She belongs to the five best students of her year. She is also involved in various activities alongside her studies. Since the fourth semester she has been supporting her fellow students as a tutor. "Here I could develop my own new ideas. For example, at the end of the semester I wrote a test exam with the students and evaluated it together. In the summer semester, we conducted the tutorial online. As a member of the study commission of the Bachelor's programme in Infrastructure Management, she actively participated in the conceptual development of this new study programme. "It was interesting for me to take part. It allowed me to contribute my experience as an international student and suggest some adjustments for future international students". Besides all these tasks, luliia Latysheva has been working as a working student in an engineering office since July. She chose the HTW Dresden after extensive research because she found the programme of the Faculty of Civil Engineering well structured and very interesting. Above all, the practical relevance was important to her. She is particularly fascinated by the variety of projects in the programme: "There's always something new to learn and it never gets boring. And the best thing about it is that it will also remain so in later professional life". The Ukrainian feels at home in Saxony: "I have no particular favourite city. I simply like all of Saxony - the people, the history, the architecture and the beautiful nature.” "luliia Latysheva is characterised by determination, diligence, a willingness to help and courtesy. Due to her academic achievements, her great commitment in supporting her fellow students and her willingness to take on additional commitments, she has very much deserved the award," the jury justified its decision. About the DAAD Prize The DAAD Prize, which is valued at 1,000 euros, honors international students who complete their studies in Germany and who demonstrate outstanding academic achievements and remarkable social commitment and build bridges between countries.

PROMOS Scholarship
09.11.2020Students enrolled at the HTW Dresden can apply for the PROMOS scholarship with the intention of graduating. As part of the DAAD PROMOS programme, the HTW Dresden supports the realisation of Study visits (1 to 6 months/monthly partial scholarship rate)/Theses (university/monthly partial scholarship rate or company/travel allowance) , Internships (6 weeks to 6 months/travel allowance), Study and group trips abroad under the direction of a university teacher (package) to non-European countries. APPLICATION Please submit the following application documents for the current calendar year to the International Office of HTW Dresden by 15 February of the calendar year (by e-mail as a PDF file to auslandsamt@htw-dresden.de): Application form PROMOS (Please first save and then open with Adobe Reader. The application form cannot be opened in the browser.) Proof of examination results (e.g. Transcript of Records) Proof of language proficiency (HTW/DAAD language certificate as language certificate after successful course participation or as module mark on certificate, in the case of lower semesters also language certificate on Abitur certificate counts Study project / letter of motivation Learning Agreement (if available) Confirmation from the university (if available) Internship agreement (if available) Confirmation of the company (if available) SELECTION PROCEDURE The selection procedure is carried out according to the subject, language and personal requirements of the students on the basis of the application documents. The selection of scholarship holders and the order of students (including reserve or replacement candidates) are made according to the award and selection criteria of the PROMOS Selection Commission of the HTW Dresden. Each faculty determines an order for the applicants of its own faculty. For better comparability of students from different faculties, a point system is used. The selection committee determines a cross-faculty order. The decision is based on a number of factors: Academic achievements knowledge of languages study project motivation Extra-curricular activities (committee activities, StuRa, faculty council, faranto e.V., IAESTE - local committee, AIESEC - local committee, involvement in the supervision of international exchange students of the HTW Dresden) Priorities/sub-priorities are defined in the light of the project abroad, regions/countries/universities, degree programmes, study progress and multiple funding. Partner universities have priority Stays in CEE countries have priority over other countries Engineering courses of studies before economic science courses of studies Students of international degree programmes (IB, IMES) before other degree programmes, as they have to complete compulsory semesters abroad. Students who have already been supported in another program by the HTW Dresden will be treated as subordinated students. For candidates who want to move up, it may also be possible for the scholarship award to be confirmed at a later date with a new notification. Stays in the country of origin cannot be funded.

Module Z011 Intercultural Communication in Wintersemester 2020/21 - eligible for all students
07.10.2020The Modul Z011 Intercultural Communication is offered every semester by the Center for Interdisciplinary Education at the HTW Dresden for students of all disciplines. The module Z011 aims, among other things, at a practical consolidation of the acquired skills. The students act as far as possible on their own initiative and provide, for example, low-threshold offers for intercultural exchange with various cooperation partners, such as faranto e.V., StuRa, Referat Internationale Beziehungen or as university ambassadors for international conferences or affairs. This commitment must be proven accordingly and integrated as a basis in the portfolio to be submitted. The portfolio shows the continuous and independent documentation and self-reflection of a specific topic based on the defined qualification goals. International Virtual Summer School on Computer- and Geoscience in Archaeology took place for the first time
17.09.2020The event was organized by Dr. Hendrik Rohland within a measure internationalization strategy of the HTW in the HAW.international programme, funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). In a cooperation between HTW, DAI and the National University of Mongolia (NUM), the partners aim to establish an international masters degree on computer- and geoscience in archaeology. The idea for the project was developed in the course of a research cooperation between DAI, NUM, HTW and the Mongolian Academy of Sciences in the years 2018 and 2019 at the magnificent medieval site of Karabalgasun, Mongolia. Inspired by the fruitful interdisciplinary and international cooperation, the participating scholars decided to develop a curriculum in the same spirit. Further information on the masters degree Further information on the 3d documentation in Mongolia Futher information on the archaeological project in Mongolia As a first step to develop the cooperation and parts of the new curriculum, common field trips of students from Germany and Mongolia to the research project of the DAI and its partners in Mongolia, the Mongolian-German Orkhon-Expedition, were planned for this year. However, the COVID pandemic made it impossible to travel and DAAD offered the possibility to repurpose part of the granted funding for virtual events. The project team at the HTW (Prof. Dr. Marco-Block-Berlitz, Prof. Dr. Martin Oczipka, Dr. Hendrik Rohland) decided to offer an interdisciplinary virtual summer school that covered some core topics of the future curriculum. One of the main aims of the new degree is to further the interdisciplinary dialogue between archaeology and the sciences. Therefore, the summer school was divided into two tracks: one that provided participants with a scientific background introductions into the work and methods of archaeology and a second track which introduced students of archaeology into some important concepts and methods from the computer- and geosciences. Both tracks joined togehter after a week and the participants explored how these methods can be applied in archaeology. During the application phase for the summer school, 69 students and scholars originating from 23 different countries applied. Due to limited resources to support such a number of students, only 25 could be admitted. The admitted participants came from Mongolia, Turkey, Australia, Serbia, Romania, France, Egypt and Germany. Luckily, the virtual format provided the possibility to record the lectures and share the used materials allowing the remaining applicants to access the content of the summer school as well. The number of applications proves, that there is a big demand for education in science-based and digital approaches in archaeology. Within the two weeks, participants heared video-lectures and attended live practice sessions in the fields of research data management, practice, methods and theories of archaeolgy, history and fields of archaeology, data-modelling and databases, programming, 3d documentation , remote sensing and geoinformation systems. Ms. Conny Coburger supported the summer school with the development of a virtual environment for practicing programming and database development. The succsessful summer school gave us the opportunity to get in contact with the audience of the intended master’s degree and to collect valuable experiences in virtual teaching in an international setting. The participants provided very encouraging and also constructive feedback on the event which lets us look forward to the further development of the new degree together with our partners.

Winter semester at the HTW Dresden: Online and classroom teaching complement each other
17.07.2020How exactly the mix of presence and online components in teaching will look like depends on the requirements and possibilities of the respective study program. Especially in the technical courses of study, where practical training plays an important role in achieving the study goals, students - in accordance with the applicable hygiene and clearance rules - regularly visit the laboratories on site in small groups in order to practice what they have learned in theory. "With the current timetable, we make sure that especially our first semester students come to the university for face-to-face classes in the first weeks of lectures. They should be given the opportunity as early as possible to familiarise themselves with the university and their local contacts", emphasised the Vice Rector for Teaching and Studies, Professor Anne-Katrin Haubold. There will be a wide range of support offers for a successful start to their studies, ranging from mentoring and tutoring, webinars on self-organisation during studies to preparatory courses in the field of mathematics. Courses in the winter semester begin on October 12. Current plans assume a low rate of infection with Covid-19. As soon as there are signs of deterioration, the organization of the winter semester will of course be adjusted. We will keep you informed about new developments on the website and by e-mail.

You want to study in the US? Apply for the Fulbright Scholarship by August 5, 2020!
09.06.2020Students who would like to study as a graduate student at a US university for four to nine months in the academic year 2021-2022 can now apply for a study scholarship from the Fulbright Commission. Scholarship holders are supported with up to $34,500 and admission to the Fulbright network. The application deadline is August 5, 2020. WHO Students and graduates of all subjects who would like to study at the Graduate School of a US university for one or two semesters. The selection criteria are, in addition to good academic performance, social commitment and the potential to contribute to transatlantic relations. Applicants will have a Bachelor's degree or a completed FH diploma by August 2021 at the latest. We would be particularly pleased to receive applications from candidates who, in addition to their academic achievements, are also distinguished by their social commitment and who, in the course of their studies, deal with topics related to digital change and thus make a contribution to the promotion of democracy. WHAT The scholarship offers up to $34,500 in financial support for nine months of study at a graduate school in the USA, as well as advice and support from Fulbright Germany and our US partners and admission to the global Fulbright network. For shorter scholarships (at least four months) a pro-rata calculation will be made. WHEN Application deadline is 05 August 2020. In a first selection step the applications will be evaluated by independent experts. Applicants nominated by the reviewers will be invited for group interviews, which will take place in Berlin from early to mid November 2020. From the end of November onwards, we will inform the applicants by email about the outcome of the selection process. Changed regulations for examinations
12.05.2020In its special session today, the Senate adopted a university-wide framework examination regulation for this purpose. These regulations regulate the examination deadlines and the examination procedure and apply to all degree programmes. The following fundamental regulations were made: Students can decide for themselves whether or not to accept individual examination results from the summer semester 2020. If an examination result is rejected, the examination must be taken again in the same examination attempt, whereby the later examination result counts. Alternative examination performances (ALP) can also be taken after the examination session until the end of the summer semester 2020, subject to the agreement with the examiner. Oral examinations and alternative examination performances (ALP) in oral form can be conducted by arrangement with the examiner using a video conference system determined by the university. Examination performances taken and not passed in the summer semester 2020 are considered as not to have been carried out without any deadline regulations applying in this respect. In addition, a second examination period from 14 September to 2 October is introduced, which will be added to the summer semester 2020. Courses in the winter semester will thus begin on 12 October 2020 and end on 30 January 2021. The current regulations are published in the FAQ for students at www.htw-dresden.de/corona . These regulations are intended to keep the burden on students as low as possible and to clarify legal uncertainties with regard to the recognition of study and examination achievements.
