Summer semester remains digital
30.04.2020The gradual opening of the university begins on 4 May. In exceptional cases, attendance events will also be possible. However, the following applies: Wherever feasible, online formats should always be used. Courses that require compulsory attendance, such as laboratory courses and exercises, can only take place if compliance with hygiene measures and distance regulations can be guaranteed. Students for whom on-site internships are planned will receive further information on the exact form of implementation. The library will also offer limited on-site service from Monday to Friday from 10:00 to 14:00 from May 4. Information of the university management on the coronavirus (SARs-CoV-2)
23.04.2020The Saxon Corona Protection Ordinance, which has been in force since 20 April 2020, makes it possible to partially reopen universities again, while observing appropriate distance and hygiene measures. In the coming days, preparations for the gradual opening and leaving the standby mode are to be made. For this purpose, the faculties and the library are currently examining under which conditions the acceptance of examinations, the performance of laboratory internships and exercises, research work and a partial opening of the library is possible. It is our goal to avoid any disadvantages for the students this semester and to guarantee the best possible teaching. We are aware of our responsibility to protect the health of all university members and to avoid the spread of SARs-CoV-2. For this reason, only absolutely necessary attendance courses should be held. The specific distance and hygiene regulations to be observed are currently being drawn up. Teaching will be continued with a focus on digital teaching and the semester will be referred to as "online semester with presence options. The university buildings will remain closed until 3 May. Access is only possible with a valid service card. Information on the course of the examinations and the rest of the semester will be provided as soon as reliable information is available. 23.04.2020Dear students, with this post we want to provide you information on the conduct of your exchange semester in connection to the Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2): The application process continues without restrictions. Applicants for an exchange semester in WS 20/21 have been successfully nominated and are now starting to apply to our partner universities. You know that the situation is constantly changing and that a message that is current today may be outdated tomorrow. We and also the partner universities will inform you if there are any changes. We hope that everything will take place as usual. At the same time, we are also aware that we have no influence on externally determined developments and that we must make the best of the situation. #closedbutopen – Library work in times of Corona
20.04.2020It is quiet and lonely in the university library at the moment. Where people normally study, study and discuss, there is now an almost eerie silence. In order to support the employees and students of our university in this time of crisis, there are two colleagues each in the library on weekdays from 9:00 to 15:00. They take inquiries, order books, systematize and catalogue in order to keep the stock up-to-date for teaching purposes. They are the contact persons for all small and large concerns. In addition, in the home office they check, among other things, licences for databases and e-books, obtain new offers, check, purchase and enter the data into the catalogue in order to make all new electronic acquisitions accessible to users as quickly as possible. A great deal of media and information can be made available in this way, regardless of location. The library's wide range of training courses can also be used virtually. Webinars on the subject of library use, database research or the Citavi literature administration program are held within courses by arrangement. Documents for self-study training are also available in the OPAL course room of the library. Work on projects scheduled for 2020 will of course continue as far as possible. For example, an electronic room booking tool is to be developed, a large exhibition on the subject of Open Science is planned for October, and the redesign of the learning rooms is also being further advanced. Plans are currently being made for the gradual re-opening. "We hope that the rooms will soon be filled with life again, naturally in compliance with strict hygienic rules," says library director Petra-Sibylle Stenzel. "A library lives above all from its users, and we greatly miss this direct contact. At the moment we are only keeping in touch with staff and students in a virtual way. However, we are pleased that we can make a significant contribution to the success of studies and teaching in these difficult times".

The new rector of the University of Applied Sciences Dresden takes office
02.04.2020Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Katrin Salchert took up her office as rector of the Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Dresden - University of Applied Sciences (HTW Dresden) on April 1 st , 2020. On March 13 th , 2020, she was officially appointed by the Saxon Minister of State for Science, Sebastian Gemkow, as the new rector of the HTW Dresden. The university's extended senate elected Prof. Katrin Salchert in December last year. Her term of office is five years. Prof. Katrin Salchert studied chemistry at the University of Leipzig, where she received her doctorate in biochemistry in 1996. In 2006, she was appointed to the Department of Natural Product Chemistry at the University of Applied Sciences Lausitz (FH) (now Brandenburg Technical University Cottbus - Senftenberg). Until February 2020, the chemist worked there as Vice President for Knowledge and Technology Transfer and Structure. She is very well established both nationally and internationally. Her goal is to position the HTW Dresden as an innovation driver in university digitization, to expand regional and international cooperation in research and teaching, and to strengthen sustainable research and transfer. "Teaching and studies are the central topic of every university. With interesting vocational qualifying courses of studies, innovative teaching formats, the promotion of competence transfer and the prospect of interesting professional fields in the region, many prospective students should be enthusiastic about the HTW Dresden. In the future I would like to work intensively with all members of the university on the sustainability of the course programs," says Prof. Katrin Salchert. Prof. Katrin Salchert assumes the official duties of Prof. Roland Stenzel, whose second term of office ended in March 2020.

Corona virus: Start of the attendance events postponed to 04 May 2020
12.03.2020During this time, the buildings of HTW Dresden are not accessible to students. The library will be available to a limited extent. Courses can still be held by making increased use of digital e-learning services. Teachers will contact students to clarify how best to use the time for self-study and/or virtual teaching. We will keep you informed about further developments via the website of the HTW Dresden and via e-mail. Please also notice the mentioned instructions to conduct. Both students and staff should ensure that they can be reached by mail. In this context, the university management appeals to the sense of responsibility of all students and staff towards themselves and other persons. Start of the summer semester 2020: Orientation week for international students

The official welcome on Monday, March 9, 2020, kicks off the orientation week, which will support the international students in their first steps in their daily study life at the HTW Dresden. Module Z011 Intercultural Communication within the framework of the Certificate of Intercultural Competences
30.01.2020The first students have successfully completed the new module Z011 on intercultural communication. The module is offered by the Center for Interdisciplinary Education at the HTW Dresden. The two international business students Lea-Sophie Angersbach and Wilhelm Stöhlmacher were the first HTW students to successfully complete the module Z011 - Intercultural Communication. This module is open to all HTW students as part of the Integral Studies program and as a component of the Intercultural Certificate. Do you want to participate as well?
