04.09.2025One example is our range of services for the " Automated generation of synthetic image data sets and the development of AI models for computer vision applications ". With this technology, we enable companies to create photorealistic training data quickly and cost-effectively, for example for quality control, maintenance or assembly. In this way, we help to reduce waste, make processes more efficient and reduce the workload of employees in the long term. In future, we will bundle and visualise further offers and services on the platform. We also use wisawi to announce and support our events. This will create a central point of contact for companies, start-ups, researchers, public stakeholders, networks and transfer initiatives who want to find out about current developments and engage in dialogue. In line with our motto "Better together" , we see wisawi as a place where collaboration, knowledge exchange and mutual support take centre stage. This is also reflected in our open hardware projects such as "Open Science Hardware Instruments for Scientific Experiments " and the " Open Source Hardware InnOvation Platform " transfer room, which are based on the principles of open innovation culture and joint innovation and give all interested parties the opportunity to contribute, think ahead and benefit from collective ideas. At the same time, we invite all partners to actively use the platform: Companies can present their product innovations or services, post offers in the innovation marketplace and benefit from a wide selection of relevant events. Start-ups can find contributors, research innovations , sources of funding and support programmes as well as valuable information on events throughout Saxony. Researchers present their results, find cooperation partners and publicise their own events to promote transfer and innovation. Public stakeholders share projects and events, gain partners for new ideas and create their own groups for joint project work. Networks & clusters increase the visibility of their projects, companies and start-ups and can specifically highlight events and initiatives to increase their reach and impact. Innovation and transfer players benefit from a high profile and numerous opportunities to initiate new projects and collaborations between science and industry.

Starting your studies in 2025: The first semester introduction helps you get started
02.09.2025The ESE not only provides important information about starting your studies, but also gives you the opportunity to get to know the campus, the Faculties and the service facilities of the HTWD. It also provides an opportunity to socialise with fellow students and make initial contact with teaching staff. Together with the Student Council, each Faculty designs an individual programme that includes subject-specific appointments as well as a variety of opportunities to get to know each other - from campus tours to cinema and barbecue evenings to a pub crawl. All first-semester students are welcomed by their Faculties on the morning of 29 September. A highlight of the week is the matriculation ceremony, which takes place on the same day at 3 pm in the Rundkino Dresden. Participation in the first semester induction offers support in settling into everyday student life. In addition to practical advice on the use of learning resources and digital platforms, it creates the space for new contacts and networks that will enrich your studies. HTWD at the BMFTR open day
27.08.2025The chess cobot impressively demonstrated how efficient cooperation between man and machine can work: A multi-camera system continuously records the environment. The visual data is analysed by an AI that recognises objects and assigns them a meaning. After each move, the robot analyses the changes on the chessboard and reacts to the actions of its teammate - just like in real-life scenarios in production, care or many other applications. An optimal strategy is then calculated and the system precisely controls the robot arm to make the next move. A real highlight: the young guests in particular were thrilled by the additional function that allows the robot to set up pieces that have fallen over or completely tidy up the chessboard after a game. Children's eyes lit up and many of them wanted a "tidy-up robot for their children's room". "We had exciting conversations with numerous visitors - about applied research, cognitive systems and our visions for the factory of the future. Many thanks to the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space for the invitation and to everyone who visited us this weekend, joined in and discussed the future of AI and robotics with us! Once again, we have seen the central role played by research at universities of applied sciences, which the BMFTR specifically supports with its funding in order to advance innovations from research directly in practice," summarises project manager Professor Dirk Reichelt.

Internship Experience: Hubert from the University of Sherbrooke at HTW Dresden
28.07.2025During his fifth and final internship before graduation, Hubert worked with a broad range of technologies including Docker, Arrowhead Cloud, OPC-UA, BLE, and Python. His main project focused on deploying a microservice-based software stack to interact with an industrial automated storage rack—while implementing CI/CD best practices. In addition, he contributed to the development of new functionalities across multiple microservices. The highlight of his internship was working directly with a real industrial machine, which will be demonstrated in the future at HTW Dresden. Beyond the technical experience, Hubert’s time in Dresden was enriched by cultural exchange and exploration: “Being in Germany for almost three months allowed me to build new friendships with people from around the world. I enjoyed traveling across Europe, exploring nature, and climbing a lot during my stay!” We thank Hubert for his contributions and wish him all the best for his future career.

Kick-off for the "Smart AI-based robotics" research network
14.07.2025The new research network "Smart AI-based Robotics (SKR)" was launched with a ceremonial start. The aim of the network is to create new innovation spaces and transfer paths by pooling cutting-edge research in Saxony in the field of smart AI-based robotics. The kick-off took place with the participation of the Saxon State Ministry of Science, Culture and Tourism (SMWK) and futureSAX. In her opening speech, State Secretary Prof. Dr. Heike Graßmann emphasised the central importance of the funded research networks for Saxony as a location for science and innovation. She emphasised how important the targeted promotion of interdisciplinary cooperation is in order to strengthen Saxony as a location for research and innovation. HTW Dresden: A strong partner in research and transfer The Dresden University of Applied Sciences (HTWD) is one of the three lead funding recipients of the network - alongside the Fraunhofer IWU and the Technical University of Dresden. It is contributing its extensive expertise in the field of intelligent, adaptive and self-organising systems. Existing infrastructures such as the IIoT testbed, the Robotics Competence Centre and the AAL Lab will be specifically incorporated into the project work and further expanded as part of the network Contributions from the participating professorships at HTW Dresden Prof. Dr. Dirk Reichelt (Professorship for Information Management) is responsible for the HTWD sub-project in the network. His team is developing strategies for the effective networking of research, industry and educational stakeholders, with a particular focus on application scenarios for intelligent robotics in industry and the skilled trades. Within the network, Prof. Dr. Hans-Joachim Böhme (Professorship of Artificial Intelligence) focuses on the field of service robotics, particularly in relation to care. Based on extensive preliminary work - including in the context of participatory development of robotic assistance systems - he contributes practical expertise to the design of intelligent, human-centred robotic solutions. Prof. Dr. Karl Wild (Professorship for Horticulture and Agriculture) works in the field of robotics in agriculture and horticulture. The focus is on the development and testing of autonomous systems for outdoor use - for example for special crops or specialised harvesting and maintenance work. A DFG-funded autonomous tractor on the test field in Pillnitz serves as a real test environment for practical R&D scenarios.

The new student ID card is coming - launch starts
09.07.2025What's new? The Campuscard is still a visual ID card, library card and access card for doors and barriers. It also contains the Studentenwerk Dresden payment function, which was previously known from the Emeal card. It can be used to pay conveniently in the canteens and cafeterias of the Studentenwerk. Another advantage is that the Campuscard no longer needs to be updated every semester. It automatically remains valid for as long as you are enrolled. Always with you digitally In addition to the physical chip card, the digital student ID card is also available in the HTWD mobile app - including a display of the current enrolment status. This can be used, for example, when visiting museums or going to the cinema (note: unfortunately, we still cannot guarantee acceptance outside the university). Important for students: Re-registration for the winter semester Mass production of the Campuscard will start shortly. It will then be sent by post to all re-registered students. We therefore ask all students to re-register in good time for the winter semester 2025/26 and to check their residential address in the QIS portal and update it if necessary. HTWD opens International Week 2025 - encounters, exchange and diversity on campus
02.06.2025The university is delighted to welcome 19 international guests from 11 different countries this year. The International Week, which takes place from 2 to 6 June, is all about intercultural dialogue, international cooperation and active university partnerships. To kick off the event, the participants were given an official welcome by the Rectorate, giving them an initial insight into the HTWD and its diverse activities. Afterwards, they were able to familiarise themselves with the campus on guided tours and experience Dresden's historic old town on a city tour. The week's programme includes practice-oriented workshops on topics such as intercultural communication, science communication and environmental technology as well as a broad cultural programme. A special highlight is the Dies academicus on Wednesday, when the entire university presents itself with a variety of events, culinary offerings and a silent disco in the evening. ‘For us, the International Week is a living symbol of international cooperation and academic exchange. We look forward to many inspiring discussions, new impulses and shared perspectives for the future.
