Handling of incoming emails for all email domains at HTW Dresden
From the second quarter of 2026, we will be using the DFN service "DFN MailSupport" (https://www.mailsupport.dfn.de/) to scan all incoming email traffic at our university, and we expect to discontinue the operation of the on-site mail scanners by the end of the third quarter of 2026.
What will change for users?
- Spam and viruses will be rejected.
- Unwanted emails (“spam”) identified as relatively secure will no longer be delivered as before, but will be rejected by the DFN (spam score >12).
The sender will then receive a corresponding error message. Emails containing detected malware will also be rejected by the DFN. - Emails with executable programs attached will be rejected
- In future, emails with executable attachments will no longer be quarantined; these emails will be rejected by the DFN.
- The sender receives a corresponding error message.
What essentially remains the same?
- Emails containing detected viruses will continue to be rejected immediately.
- The email will continue to be marked in a header line with a number of ‘s’ corresponding to the spam score.
- Filters set up for this purpose can be retained.
- From a spam score > 6.2: The subject of the email is rewritten, with {Spam?} prefixed to the original text.
